Dawn <3  - I never wanted anything new; from the age of ten, I was convinced that you couldn't replace what was lost. I insisted on things having to be found.
- I have found that the many imbalances within our individual lives result in an overall more worldly balance. Within every bad thing I see good, and, likewise, with every good thing I see bad, however impossible it is to understand it or see it at the time. As humans we are the epitome of life; in life there is always a balance. Life and death, male and female, good and bad, beautiful and ugly, win and lose, love and hate. Lost and found.

- I don’t know what he’s been doing to work out while he was overseas...fighting monks in the Himalayas like Christian Bale in Batman Begins is what Lana thinks. Trisha says plain old weightlifting, while Shameeka says probably a combination of lifting and cardio.
Tina thinks he just ‘got hit with a stick of pure awesomeness.’ - And now Rocky is begging me to watch Dora the Explorer with him. I understand that millions of kids love Dora and have learned to read or whatever from her show. But I wouldn't mind if Dora fell off a cliff and took her little pals with her.
- Spicy is one word you definitely don't want to associate with your grandma's butt. Or juicy, for that matter.
- Life isn't a romance novel. The truth is, the reasons romance novels sell so well - the reason why everyone loves them - is because no one's life is actually like that. Everyone wants their life to be like that.
 - See, I know this was going to happen. Tina takes everything and wraps it up in a silver tissue paper and puts a big bow on it and calls it Love. And I'm supposed to be the romance writer.

 - 'God, Mom! Do you think I'd do that? I'm a feminist, you know. I don't need a man to make me happy.' It's just, you know, when that particular one is around, and I smell his neck, my oxytocin levels rise, and I feel calmer and more relaxed than I do when I'm alone. Or with anyone else.
- But there's a REASON I worry so much about her. Sometimes Lilly makes really bad choices. And then she gets hurt.
And true, sometimes she makes good choices – like dating J.P. – and gets hurt anyway.
But making out with some random Muay Thai fighter in her kitchen just one day after breaking up with her boyfriend of six months?
I don’t see how that can be a good choice.
- We're all going to sit down to dinner like a normal family. Just me, my mom, her husband, their kid, and my dad the Prince of Genovia. Oh, yeah. we're a normal family all right. No wonder I'm in therapy.
 - Parents. Seriously. First they get on my case because I won't get out of bed or do anything. Then I do what they want, and get out of bed and socialize, and they get mad about THAT too. You can't win.
- It's amazing how the more times change, the more they stay the same.
- And, OK, I spent most of the time I was dating Kenny trying to figure out how to break up with him. But still. She can't be mad at me for exactly doing what she's doing..can she ?

 - Why can't Ms Martinez see that by putting me in Intro to Creative Writing instead of Intermediate, where I belong, she is repressing my artistic growth? How is the blossom of my creativity ever going yo be able to bloom if no one WATERS it?
- 'A LITTLE TRIM??? You look like a cotton swab.'
 - 'Well, I'm broken too,' Lilly said defensively. 'And I'm still able to FUNCTION. A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.'
I really hate this expression. I bet fish would totally want bicycles, if they had legs.
- 'True romantic love really doesn't come around that often,' he went on. 'When it does, it's foolish to throw it away because of some silly thing the object of your affections did before the two of you were even dating.'
I just stared at him. I don’t think it was my imagination that he looked so much like the elf king in The Lord of the Rings.

 - Still, I think my story, 'No More Corn!', is pretty good. I mean, it has everything a short story SHOULD have in it: Romance. Pathos. Suicide. Corn. Who could ask for more ?
- Mia: Um, yeah, but unless we’re going to CHARGE them to publish their stuff, I don’t see how that’s going to raise US any cash.
Tina: Don’t you see, Mia? We can charge people for copies of the magazine once we’ve printed it. I bet we’ll sell LOTS of copies.
Lilly: Thank you, Tina. The lack of jadedness in your response is quite refreshing compared to SOME people’s negative attitudes.

- Because to me, J.P. is the Guy Who Hates It When They Put Corn In The Chilli. He's not John Paul Reynolds-Abernathy the Fourth. A short story that was rejected by Sixteen magazine. A short story I hope to expand into a novel someday. A short story at the end of which the Guy Who Hates It When They Put Corn In The Chilli throws himself under the F train. How can I talk to a guy I had thrown himself under a train - even if it WAS only fiction?
 - The truth is, I am not even the biggest Coldplay fan, because I don't really approve of the lead singer letting his wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, name their kid Apple.

 - Mysteries are okay in books, but in real life they kind of suck.

- She fully deserved to have her Chanel suit ruined on account of being stupid enough to bring her DOG to MY BIRTHDAY dinner. I so wish I had seen this. No one would admit it later - not even Mom - but I bet it was really, really funny to see Grandmere covered in soup. I swear, if that's all I had got for my birthday, I'd have been totally happy.
